We are looking forward to expanding our 2015 solar tours in Texas as we collaborate with the 20th American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Tour . This is the largest grassroots solar event in the world and October has been named National Solar Tour Month. Interested in organizing a solar tour in your community? Let us know! Fredericksburg SHINES hosts their 3rd annual tour of 10 sustainable homes with newly extended hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m, plus a food truck, The Black Pig. The tour includes solar applications for electricity generation (main roof, garage roof, and ground mount applications), water heating, attic cooling, and solar tubes as interior light sources. For those interested in water applications, there will be examples of water-wise landscaping (including xeriscaping) and rainwater collection systems. Tickets for the event are $25 and include a map and a description of what is available for viewing at each home.
The amazing production of our chapter in North Texas, North Texas Renewable Energy Group, and their 6th Annual DFW Solar Tour. At last count they had 50+ locations across North Texas and 15+ "October 3 is DFW Solar Tour Day" proclamations from mayors and city councils. The first ever Bastrop Solar Tour kicks off at 9:00am at the Stanberry & Associate
s office with a presentation by Solar Austin's Kaiba White and Johnny Sanders from Bluebonnet Electric Coop.Then it's off to view four homes that have made the choice to go solar. Talk to the homeowners about their experience and meet the installers. As this community rebuilds after the devastating fires of 2011, homeowners are looking to energy efficient practices and pulling power from the sun. South to Houston and our chapter, Houston Renewable Energy Group, is planning a tour of solar installations in Pearland. Both DYI and professionally installed solar arrays will be featured. Details are coming as the organizers bring this first of four solar tours, to be hosted over the coming year. Houston, the home of oil and gas is going solar. Last year's successful month-long solar workshop series at IKEA is also back for the month of October.
San Antonio goes all out for Solar Fest "Capture the Power!" Solar San Antonio just merged with Build San Antonio Green and they are excited to present a new and broader Solar Fest at Roosevelt Park,331 Roosevelt Ave. this year. Expect live music, local breweries and groups that relate to the larger sustainability conversation in San Antonio. Free and open to all.
I'm afraid you've missed it the 2015 tour , but we look forward to next year's tour in early June. Though the Cool House Tour is not technically a solar tour, several of the homes on this tour boast solar PV or solar thermal. A collaboration of TXSES and Austin Energy Green Building, it's a huge success, for tour goers, the professionals showcasing their work and for the proud homeowners who are the drivers of the move to live more sustainably. The importance of this tour cannot be over stated, as citizens strive to conserve resources while considering comfort.
