Brief

The TXSES Executive Director position is a customer-facing, Austin-based, work-from-home opportunity that requires an avowed passion for the organization’s mission: promoting clean, safe, locally harvested solar energy for every Texan. The Executive Director is the public face and leader of the Texas Solar Energy Society.

The position requires a goal-driven, self-starter who possesses a high degree of motivation and energy. It requires an achiever with a record of productivity, persistence, success, and endurance.

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and coordinating with the local chapters of the Texas Solar Energy Society and with the national American Solar Energy Society, along with various community partners.

Working under the overall direction and guidance of the TXSES Board of Directors, the Executive Director collaborates with Board officers and other Board members on matters in their area of responsibility. The Executive Director also engages contract labor providers and volunteers for specific projects, and manages their activities.

 

Responsibilities

Organization Governance, Mission and Strategy:  Works with Board and volunteer staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Texas Solar Energy Society in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission.
  • Communicating with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions.
  • Preparing an Annual Report shared with the Board and the public.
  • Implementing the Texas Solar Energy Society’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission.
  • Conducting strategic planning to ensure that the Texas Solar Energy Society and its local chapters and affiliate organizations can successfully support the objectives of its mission into the future.
  • Maintaining and enhancing the public image of the Texas Solar Energy Society through active and visible participation in the community and working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations.

Financial Performance, Operations and Viability: Develops and manages resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization, including:

  • Submitting to the Board a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Carefully managing fiscal operations that generally anticipate working within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and maintaining the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Fundraising and developing increased and diversified resources necessary to support the Texas Solar Energy Society’s mission.
  • Effectively administrating the Texas Solar Energy Society operations.
  • Coordinating common objectives with the Texas Solar Energy Society chapters and the American Solar Energy Society.
  • Engaging, managing, and motivating volunteers and contract support.

 

Qualifications

Professional

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

Required

  • Demonstrated self-management, self-accountability and delegation skills
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to non-profit sector
  • Flexibility and curiosity to adapt with the evolving needs of the organization
  • Facility and familiarity with social media and general office operations software, e.g.
    • MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Strong communication (writing and speaking), presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Dependable transportation for both in-town and occasional out of town travel

Preferred

  • Familiarity with passive and active solar energy principles, and the solar and utility industries in general
  • Web publishing experience
  • Proficiency in Spanish
  • Familiarity with accounting principles
