Join TXSES chapter North Texas Clean Energy Group (NTxCEG) for their next monthly meeting on Saturday, November 14th. The online-only event will feature presentations from two distinguished speakers discussing their projects to bring clean energy to low-income homes: Erick C. Jones Jr., Ph.D. and Kathy Jack, Ph.D.
Presentation by Dr. Jones:
“Two Problems, One Pilot: The Green Warriors 2024 Pilot as a Model for Weatherization, Workforce Development and Communities”
Erick Jones will discuss the Green Warriors 2024 Pilot, a South Dallas initiative led by UTA’s Sustainable and Efficient Allocation of Resources (SEAR) Lab with community and city partners to address challenges in various communities.
The pilot weatherized seven homes while training local residents through the City of Dallas Green Job Skills Program in building science and weatherization. Using smart meter and utility billing data, the project found an average 10% energy reduction across participating homes, with the highest-performing home showing an estimated $780 in annual savings.
The session will explore what these results mean for workforce development and the scaling of community-based weatherization programs in Dallas and beyond.
Objectives:
- Identify key weatherization measures used in the pilot and their impact on household energy performance.
- Interpret pilot findings, including energy savings and payback potential.
- Discuss how this dual-track model can inform scalable, community-based strategies for workforce training and local policy.
Speaker Bio:
Erick C. Jones Jr., Ph.D., Assistant Professor, University of Texas at Arlington
Dr. Jones conducts research focusing on energy systems and infrastructure. Through the SEAR Lab, he applies systems engineering methods to community-centered energy challenges.
Presentation by Dr. Jack:
Kathy Jack will present on TEPRI’s work to advance affordable, reliable, and clean energy solutions across Texas, and highlight the recently completed solar + battery powered community resilience hub projects developed with Foundation Communities in Arlington, Texas.
Speaker Bio:
Kathy Jack, Ph.D., Director of Programs, Texas Energy Poverty Research Institute (TEPRI)
As Director of Programs, Dr. Kathy Jack supports TEPRI’s energy programs and research to advance affordable, reliable, and clean energy solutions for Texans contending with low incomes.
