NTREG Monthly Meeting – April (Open to All)

Start Date: April 11, 2026
End Date: April 11, 2026
Time: 10 AM–12 PM
Location: North Lake Campus of Dallas College, Building C, Room C-243, or via Zoom

This month’s topic will be: Net Zero Energy Home Solar Power System (by Bill Byrom). Bill will describe the energy saving features in this house and show the actual energy use during the first 30 months living in this new home.

Bill Byrom is a program coordinator who arranges speakers for monthly meetings of NTREG (the North Texas Renewable Energy Group). Bill retired in 2019 after 32 years as a field application engineer for Tektronix, an Oregon manufacturer of electronic test instruments. He is an electrical engineer (University of Texas at Austin) and an amateur radio operator (N5BB).

During the pandemic (2020-2023) Bill demolished his old house in Irving (which had foundation and other problems) and built a new net zero energy house on the lot. The new house was built by Axis Design-Build (Tony Robinson) and was designed for energy efficiency. The house includes a solar power system with battery storage, designed by Michael Fladmark and PE Dan Lepinski. The first solar cell Bill used was in the mid-1960’s while he was still in elementary school in Austin.

Directions:

The in-person meeting will be in Building C room C-243 at the North Lake campus of Dallas College in Irving. My GPS works best when navigating to the campus entrance at 2000 W. Walnut Hill Lane, Irving TX 75038. Turn right before the circle and go around to building C (to the right, below building G).
