The Role
Lead end-to-end EPC delivery for solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. The work is primarily distributed generation and local solar under 20 MW; utility-scale experience above 50 MW is a plus. You will own engineering coordination, procurement, field construction, commissioning, and handover so projects meet schedule, budget, quality, safety, and interconnection requirements.
Strong electrical knowledge is required. This is an EPC construction leadership role, not an electrician or electrical-design role. You do not need a journeyman or master electrician license. You do need enough command of PV and BESS electrical systems to review designs, direct electrical subcontractors, and take a site through testing, energization, and utility permission to operate.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full EPC lifecycle: engineering coordination, vendor and subcontractor procurement, construction execution, commissioning, punchlist, and handover.
- Set and track project milestones, including mechanical completion, electrical completion, testing, site turnover, substantial completion, and commercial operation (COD).
- Run multiple distributed-generation projects in parallel while protecting cost, schedule, quality, and margin.
- Own budgeting, scheduling, cost-to-complete forecasts, change-order control, and contract administration.
- Direct site work: site preparation, foundations, equipment installation, electrical installation, commissioning, and testing.
- Review electrical design and field work for constructability and readiness — DC and AC collection, inverters or PCS, transformers, switchgear, grounding, single-line diagrams, and the point of interconnection.
- Oversee electrical subcontractors and the path to energization, including testing, LOTO discipline, utility hold points, and interconnection with Texas utilities / ERCOT as applicable.
- Lead BESS and PV integration in the field, including equipment interfaces and coordination with engineering and the interconnecting utility.
- Conduct and guide site assessments, constructability reviews, and feasibility input for PV and BESS projects.
- Source and procure major equipment (modules, inverters/PCS, racking, transformers, switchgear, and BESS components) and manage supplier logistics.
- Coordinate AHJs, inspectors, utilities, landowners, and other stakeholders through permitting, inspection, and permission to operate.
- Lead project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors. Set the HSE standard on site, including electrical safety practices.
- Travel to Texas construction sites for oversight, quality walks, and issue resolution.
- Improve EPC processes and playbooks for distributed-generation solar and storage.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years in EPC, power-generation construction, or renewable project delivery, including 5+ years on solar PV. Director, senior project, or equivalent leadership experience required. Hands-on distributed generation / local solar under 20 MW is the core of this role; utility-scale (50 MW+) is a plus.
- Proven delivery of PV and BESS projects through construction, commissioning, and handover — not design-only or development-only experience.
- Deep working knowledge of PV and BESS electrical systems. You must be able to read single-line diagrams, oversee electrical subcontractors, and lead a site through electrical completion, testing, energization, and interconnection. A licensed electrician credential is not required.
- Demonstrated strength in scheduling, budgeting, contracting, and field leadership on construction projects.
- Working knowledge of utility interconnection and Texas renewable construction practice. ERCOT and Texas TDU familiarity preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to travel regularly to Texas project sites. DFW-based candidates strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical Engineering degree and/or PE license.
- Direct experience taking PV and/or BESS sites from mechanical completion through energization and permission to operate.
- Familiarity with NEC requirements applicable to PV and energy storage, medium-voltage collection, and utility POI equipment on C&I or community-scale sites.
- PMP and OSHA-30.
- Proficiency with Procore and Primavera P6 or MS Project.
- Experience supporting interconnection agreements, AHJ inspections, and Independent Engineer reviews.
- Spanish language ability is a plus on Texas job sites.
Success Looks Like:
- Projects finish on time, on budget, and at the required quality — through construction, commissioning, and COD.
- Jobsites are safe, organized, and well led. Subcontractors are held to a clear standard.
- Electrical scope is understood well enough that design gaps, inspection issues, and interconnection delays are caught early — not at first energization.
- Leadership has an accurate picture of cost, schedule, risk, and field readiness across the portfolio.
